Lynette Russell AM is a Sir John Monash Distinguished Professor and ARC Laureate Fellow at the Monash Indigenous Studies Centre. One of Australia’s foremost anthropological historians, she specialises in Aboriginal history, early cross-cultural encounters, and Indigenous knowledge systems. Her Aboriginal ancestors were born on the lands of the Wotjobaluk people. She has held fellowships at Oxford and Cambridge and is an elected fellow of Australian and international academies, including the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2019.
