Dennis Shanahan began reporting from the Federal Parliamentary Press Gallery in 1979 in the Old Parliament House for The Sydney Morning Herald. After returning to Sydney to report on State Parliament for the Herald he was hired by The Australian in late 1988 and has worked continuously for The Australian in the Gallery since then. He has covered every prime minister since Malcolm Fraser through to Anthony Albanese.
