Jackie Dent’s grandparents — Ruby and Julie — donated their bodies to science. The decision was a grand family mystery: Was it an act of generosity or funeral-averse frugality? Where did their bodies end up? What good did they serve? In the search for answers, Jackie discovered the fascinating world of anatomists.

Artist

JACKIE DENT is an author, journalist and communications person. She has worked for many media outlets including the ABC, the Sydney Morning Herald, Reuters, the New York Times, Monocle, the Guardian, Strewth! and others. She has curated public talks for Tedx Sydney, the Ethics Centre and Clear Spot Club. She has done stints with the United Nations in Afghanistan, Pakistan, North Ossetia and South Sudan, and is currently doing a PhD on "The Pleasures of War" at the University of Sydney.

Artist

JANE DAHLSTROM is a Perinatal Pathologist at ACT Pathology for Canberra Health Services and Chair and Professor of Pathology, School of Medicine and Psychology, at the Australian National University (ANU) College of Health and Medicine. In 2002, due to the generous donations from residents in Canberra and the surrounding regions, she was able to establish a surgical specimen teaching museum. In 2019 Jane received an Order of Australia for her contributions to Medical Education and Pathology.

SALLY PRYOR Born-and-bred Canberra, Sally is features editor at The Canberra Times, where she sifts through large piles of books every week. She has worked there for more than a decade.
